Profiling and Investigations
Robson Reid Profiling and Investigations is intelligence and research-led. We treat assessment, investigation, observation, documentary evidence and open-source material as parts of a wider picture. This means that each source is tested against the others, allowing us to provide a balanced and proportionate conclusion based on the available evidence. Led by an expert witness in clinical negligence cases we do not overstate what the evidence can support. We separate fact from interpretation and professional opinion, explain how conclusions have been reached, and make clear where uncertainty remains.

Robson Reid’s work is designed to be clear, proportionate and capable of scrutiny; our role is to provide an independent perspective that clients can understand and act upon.

Key specialist areas:

  • Independent investigations, including workplace matters: Each investigation begins with clear terms of reference. We follow the evidence rather than a preferred outcome, treat those involved fairly and keep a transparent record of how findings have been reached. Where appropriate, our work is aligned with recognised standards, including the ACAS Code of Practice. Interviews are structured, professional and non-coercive. The result is a clear report that explains what has been found, the evidence considered and the standards against which the matter has been assessed.
  • Counterparty and decision-maker intelligence: In mergers, acquisitions, tenders, negotiations and high-value commercial relationships, outcomes often depend on a small number of people. Understanding how key decision-makers have acted in previous situations, what they value and how they approach risk can provide valuable context before important commitments are made. We build profiles of counterparties and decision-makers using publicly available and documentary information. The aim is not manipulation. It is to provide a clearer understanding of context, motivation, influence and potential risk, allowing clients and their advisers to prepare appropriately.
  • Behavioural profiling: There are times when an understanding of how a person may behave in a particular context is needed — a leader under pressure, a candidate for a sensitive role, a key decision-maker, or an individual at the centre of a complex concern. We provide structured behavioural profiling based on what can be observed, recorded and evidenced, considering patterns of communication, decision-making, conduct, influence and risk over time. We are clear about the limits of this work. Behavioural profiling is not clinical diagnosis. It is not personality testing. It is not lie detection. It can help identify questions, themes and areas for further enquiry; it should not be treated as proof in isolation. Conclusions are tied to the available evidence, with confidence levels stated clearly and proportionately.
  • Executive risk and integrity due diligence: Senior appointments, partnerships and acquisitions can carry significant long-term risk. Interviews, recruiter assessments and references may help establish whether someone can do the job. They do not always reveal conduct concerns, inconsistencies in the documented record or integrity questions that may later become significant. Robson Reid provides an independent assessment of shortlisted candidates, examining the documented record and public footprint alongside structured behavioural analysis. All work is undertaken within appropriate UK data-protection and employment-law boundaries. You receive a clear written assessment of where genuine risk may sit, how strong the available evidence is and what it means for the decision in front of you. This is not a rumour file or an attempt to uncover every detail of someone’s past. It is a proportionate, defensible assessment designed to support better-informed decisions.

Leadership and credentials:
Robson Reid is founded and operated by Rebecca Connolly who provides a rare combination of expertise. She previously served as a police officer on the Home Office High Potential Development Scheme, held senior clinical and executive leadership roles within the NHS, undertaken clinical forensic examinations and continues to practise as a Part 35 expert witness. This breadth of experience enables her to assess complex matters from clinical, investigative and evidential perspectives rather than through the lens of a single discipline.

This breadth of expertise shapes the way Robson Reid works. Findings must be supported, reasoning must be clear and conclusions must remain proportionate to the available evidence.

Her qualifications span behavioural science, investigation, information security and cybersecurity: an MSc in Psychology specialising in behaviour, an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, postgraduate study in Forensic and Legal Medicine, SFJ Awards in Professional Investigation, ISO/IEC 27001 and CISMP, and Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, a member of the Institute of Professional Investigators, and has contributed to clinical textbooks and peer-reviewed publications.

The principle behind the work is straightforward: we will explain what the evidence supports and, just as importantly, what it does not.

FAQ:

  1. Is lie detection or body language analysis reliable?
Much of what is presented as body-language analysis or lie detection is simply not supported by reliable evidence. Robson Reid does not offer lie detection as an absolute, and nor do we treat facial expressions, posture or behaviour as proof of deception. Observation may help identify questions or areas for further enquiry, but conclusions are always based on the wider evidence available.
  2. Can you guarantee accuracy?
No responsible professional can guarantee certainty when dealing with contested facts or human behaviour. What we provide is a clear and transparent process: we explain the method used, state confidence levels appropriately, tie conclusions to the available evidence and make clear how findings have been reached.
  3. Is the initial consultation free?
    Yes. Free and without obligation
  4. Do you accept every case?
No. We take a deliberately small caseload. If a matter falls outside what we can properly deliver, we will say so at the first conversation and, where we can, point you toward someone who can.
